Preferred live, but unquestionably talented regardless of format,

Were I pressed to rate Alice Gold's talent, I wouldn't hesitate to give her a 5 out of 5, but simply put, once you've seen her live, recorded works simply won't do. On stage her presence is utterly inimitable, and so whilst I did purchase this album knowing this, this is basically as close as one can get to that experience. To give it a genre I'd call it a kind of glam rock, perhaps mixed with a bit of progressive. The thing I absolutely adore, and is such a rare trait, is her complete lack of restraint. She'll willingly scream or attempt to push her voice far lower than her range would fully allow. But it's that freedom of expression and inventive behaviour that makes for a compelling sound. Her voice is sharp as a tack and whilst I prefer the minimalist approach of her live sets, I can't say the instrumentals betray the freedom of sound.
If I were to recommend this to anyone, I would simply state that this girl is not afraid of anything, and if you like your music breaking conventions or freely improvising clever little touches? This is the artist for you. I can't wait for her to come back to Edinburgh.
