Soft Machine Legacy studio album marred by poor mix and mastering,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Burden Of Proof (Audio CD)
There is much to enjoy musically on this new offering from the Soft Machine Legacy but nonetheless I think this is not as good as either 'Live Adventures' or 'Steam'.
Most of the tracks are quite short, and some could have done with more of the extended improvisation they do so well.
What is very disappointing, particularly as this is a studio album is the fact that drummer John Marshall is generally rather low in the mix and sounds like he is in the next studio most of the time. Only his cymbals have any punch or clarity and the rest of the kit sounds muffled. The men responsible for this, Andrew Tulloch (mixing/mastering)and Beppe Crovella (recording) really need to grow a pair of ears between them.
