This review is from: Ashes Cricket 09 (Wii) (Video Game)
Having been playing various versions of cricket games on both PC and PS2 for several years, I was really excited for a Wii version as it would offer a far more interactive and realistic cricketing experience.
What a disapointment!
I guess I kind of expected to be looking down the pitch through a cricket helmet grill, as Brett Lee steamed in, my Wii controller in hand masterfully hooking, pulling, driving or ducking. Or running in ball (Wii controller) in hand, hitting the bowling crease just right, delivering line and length with maybe a hint of reverse swing. So much potential for this to have been the best Wii game ever, but sadly no.
There is minimal control in both batting and bowling. The action is just too far away, there are no fielding controls, i.e. catching, throwing etc (there are minimal preset field placing options). Commentary is boring and repetitive. Not much thought has been put into graphic sequencing, i.e. fast seam bowlers warming up as if they were spinners. Seriously, I have a PS2 cricket game from 2003 that is better.
I guess we will continue to wait for the Wii cricket game so many of us long for.
