Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Mapp & Lucia: The Complete Series [DVD] (1985-1986) (DVD)
I absolutely loved this series. I watched them when first broadcast and bought the VHS when it came out. I wanted to have the series in DVD - less storage, better picture but this item although very good has cut great shanks of the series and one feels a bit suspended in the air not quite knowing how you got there. I know the series well and felt let down as it was not clear that it had been abridged. Maybe should have read more carefully the details before buying it.

Thanks for your useful warning. I've got the VHS but can no longer watch it - but I don't want to replace it with an abridged version, so I'm sort of stuck. I'll think about the DVD, but bear your info in mind. Thanks again.

There was another version of the series a lot more expensive and that could be complete?

This DVD set has all ten 50 minute episodes of Mapp and Lucia [two seasons of five episodes, first broadcast in 1985 & 1986, with a total DVD run time of 500 minutes] NOBODY has cut great shanks of the series , your memory is at fault, sad to say.

I like that you said not a great shank of it was cut - so you admit that some of it was cut!!! my memory is very good - thank you very much - and I watched this series many times - and just to be sure I watched the VHS complete series that I still have and there are parts missing - not a lot as you say but enough to annoy if one is used to the whole episode. Sorry but I don't think you loved the series or watched it as much as I did. Please don't be so patronizing and know it all - other people can be right too and they can prove it!

I have NOT said that a anything was cut out , let alone a great shank , whatever you think that means.
So NO, I do not admit that any of it was cut.
Other people can point out that you have exaggerated in saying that
"enough has been cut to annoy, if one is used to the whole episode"
---- IT HAS NOT BEEN CUT.
If you want to prove otherwise you must provide accurate timings for the VHS and the DVD.

K. E. Adams says:
Stephen is absolutely correct, this version has not been cut and just because he says it's not been cut is simple fact, not patronising at all

Sorry Barry but its run time is 500 minutes, the unnamed UK seller has messed up the product description.
Do you have the DVD in your possession to confirm this?

Barry McCanna says:
Many thanks for the correction. I have the DVDs, but not the case. However, I also have the VHS version, of which Part One shows 250 minutes approx, and for Part Two 260 minutes. That would equate with your ten 50-minute episodes, and the DVD run time of 500 minutes.
I suspect that rheailia has read the books, which of course cover more ground that the TV adaptation. If so, that would explain her confusion, but not her unwillingness to accept her mistake.
