A masterclass in Zeppelin Rockology,

This review is from: Led Zeppelin (Audio CD)
Even if you don't immediately recognise all of these 54 tracks by name or the opening riffs, you won't fail to be impressed by the sheer force of their argument and understand why Led Zeppelin rightly hold such a high position in the pantheon of British rock. Don't forget this is only 60% of their output and die-hard fans will be complaining that they didn't include all their favourite tracks. Jimmy Page has done a masterly job both in selection and ordering so that it's not just a chronological trawl. If 'Stairway to Heaven' remains your all-time favourite you obviously haven't been revisiting the Zeppelin canon recently. If, like me, you have crackled and almost unplayable vinyl copies you should make this your first choice. The re-mastering and transcription to CD has brought out the brilliance of the playing and allowed the subtlety of the accoustic tracks to shine through. Purchasing this and the follow-up, volume 2, will give you the entire studio recorded output plus additionally unreleased gems. If you are determined to complete your rock education, this is your PhD thesis.
