Not an amazing DVD release,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Doctor Who: Spearhead From Space [DVD] (DVD)
As a relatively short-term Whovian (since 2006, born 1994) I was unfortunate enough to have seen no classic Doctor Who up until a couple of years ago. For Christmas I recieved a 'Beginning' boxset comprising William Hartnell's first three stories, but really struggled to get through them as they were in black and white and the stories weren't as fast-paced as I was used to. Other than The Five Doctors, which I picked up at a jumble sale, this was the first colour episode which I purchased and was unfortunately quite disappointed. The story was not bad, and it is good to see the Auton's on their first outing. However, the lack of the Doctor for a lot of this story (he had just regenerated) made it less enjoyable for me. In addition, this was one of the earliest Doctor Who DVD releases, so has relatively few special features.
Nevertheless, this is a must-have for anyone trying to build up a collection of classic Who. (Perhaps as part of this release: Doctor Who: Mannequin Mania- Spearhead from Space / Terror of the Autons [DVD] as it would have more special features. Plus Terror of the Autons is not available on its own.)
