Close but no cigar,

This review is from: The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands: Waste Lands Bk. 3 (Paperback)
I massively enjoyed the first two volumes of Roland's adventures and eagerly opened the cover of this one.Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Although still a good read (King is never boring), it suffers because it's predecessor, Vol II, is so excellent.
Having said that, there are very good parts in this - Blaine the Mono , for instance, is a wickedly, wonderful 'character' and I look forward to reading more about him in the next book.
The drawing of Jake is another high point and, as an animal lover, I was glad to see Jake get himself a pet. Oy provides some light relief and King does well in describing the bond between Jake and his new friend.
All in all, a good read, just not a breathtaking one...
