Double Van Damage,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Double Impact [DVD] (DVD)
1)Jean Claude Van Damme delivers great marital arts action & plays two parts as brothers Chad & Alex very distinctively from one another.
2)Great villians played by Alan Scarfe & Phillip Chan + we get Van Damme vs Bolo Yeung fight 2.
3)Geoffrey Lewis does well as Frank Avery as a mediator between the two brothers.
The plots a little weak & the ending feels slightly rushed, The fight between Van Damme & Cory Everson should've been better choreographed & should've a lot delivered more.
Running time 107 minutes approx.
1)Jean Claude Van Damme wrote this story, Co adapted the screenplay & Co produced this film.
2)Bolo Yeung featured in Van Dammes classic Bloodsport & appeared in Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee.
3)Phillip Chan also appeared in Bloodsport as Inspector Chen.
4)Cory Everson was Ms Olympia from 1984-89 winning 6 consecutive times in a row.
Business partners Paul Wagner & Nigel Griffith celebrate the opening of there newly constructed tunnel The Hong Kong Victoria Habour Tunnel.
Paul Wagner attends with his wife Catherine, Identical twin sons Chad & Alex & good friend & bodyguard Frank Avery.
After the celebrations Paul & Catherine are targeted by a triad hit squad arranged by Paul's partner Nigel Griffith to gain full control & profits from the Tunnel & his underworld associate Raymond Zhang who Frank sees before getting shot but manages to rescue Chad & escape who he then raises as his own son.
Alex is sent to a orphanage by his nanny & the two brothers don't know of the other's existence.
Over 24 year's pass & Frank learns of Chads brother Alex whom is working in the Hong Kong criminal underworld run by Zhang who's girlfriend work's for Nigel Griffith.
Frank attempts to reunite the brothers who's personalities clash immediately, Frank tells them that they have a right to claim the tunnel & tells them to put aside there differences to bring down the Zhang criminal underworld & seek revenge on Griffith & Zhang for there parent's murder.
This is one of Van Dammes best movie's with Van Damme giving 2 performances as identical twin brother's Chad & Alex playing each brother with a distinctive personality & delivering some kick ass fight scenes with Chad the Karate fighter & Alex the streetbrawler, Including some exellent gunplay in the drug lab shootout scene.
Geoffrey Lewis offers good support as Frank Avery adopted father to Chad & best friend of there father Paul helping reunite the brothers & claim there birthright.
Alan Scarfe & Phillip Chan are menacing & threatening villians Nigel Griffith & Raymond Zhang as is Bolo Yeung s there bodyguard sidekick which set's up the second fight between him & Van Damme on a ship.
What irks me is that the ending feels slightly rushed after the Van Damme & Bolo Fight there's nothing that stands out as Cory Eversons fight with Van Damme as Alex is anti climatic & doesn't deliver neither does the killing of Raymond Zhang who deserves more than falling to his death.
At least Nigel gets a better comeuppance having a freight container dropped on him by Chad via a lift container truck.
But this was the era when Van Damme delivered great action movie's & this is certainly up there with Kickboxer, Universal Soldier & Hard Target as one of his best.
