This review is from: DarkMarket: CyberThieves, CyberCops and You (Hardcover)Misha Glenny's book is based on approximately 200 hours of interviews and is a fascinating exposure of "card crime". I've a little bit of experience myself here, on opening my credit card account bill one summers day 3/4 years ago I found it about £1000 higher than I expected, not good news. Someone had clearly used it to withdraw money from ATM's at an Italian railway station. Now I love Italy and holiday there regularly but hadn't been there at the time the money was withdrawn. I contacted the credit card company who to my relief told me to settle the charges I recognised and they quickly sent me a replacement card, full marks to them. I asked a few questions but understandably found out little. Reading this book I now know considerably more.
The book details the exploits of some of the characters behind such sites (now defunct) as cardersplanet, darkmarket and others, and of the efforts of the law to catch these criminals.
I've given it 4 stars rather than 5 only because I have the feeling having read it that a much larger, more in-depth tome is possible. That's no criticism of this book, more an opinion of how big a problem internet/card crime is and likely to grow now that the net is a part, indeed many parts of our everyday life.
