2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing over-rated comedy, 21 Oct 2011
This review is from: Modern Family - Season 1-2 [DVD] (DVD)
I never saw this on tv as it was shown on satellite tv , for which I won't pay $ky-high prices to subscribe to. I bought this as something of a blind buy, having only read the other reviews which rate it highly, and I'm also a fan of ed o neill,s past comedy classic tv show married with children. As well as comedy series in general.

Anyway having forced myself to watch the first 2 discs of series 1, and I haven't laughed once, and I just struggle to find where the comedy is. It's supposed to be about 3 groups of people and their offspring from one dysfunctional family , and it copies the filming stlye of tv classics curb your enthusiasm and the office an American workplace in that it's like a documentary and the characters talk to the camera. If you can stay awake long enough you'll question what's the point of this is? And start searching for the remote to switch over.

If you've never seen this before then rent first, dont believe all the hype from the other reviews and make an expensive mistake of buying.

This takes me back a few years to a colleague who didn't find Fawlty Towers funny on the grounds that he had 'stayed in a hotel like that once'

This comment is almost as funny as the series :-)
My son introduced Modern Family to me and I was hysterically gasping for breath after the cumulative effect of watching several episodes!
Oh well, can't win them all . . .

Deniro77, if you didn't like Modern Family then that is fair enough as we don't all share the same sense of humour, but considering at the time I write this comment 95% of the reviews give this 5 stars and you are the only one who doesn't like it (apart from some sucker who had a problem with the DVD disc), I'd say that it's fairly safe to recommend to someone to buy this series otherwise you are being arrogant enough to say that everyone else is wrong and yours is the only opinion that counts.

Just can't see where you are coming from. This is hilarious. One of the best comedies for years, so true to life.

Yes, but Married with Children ended 15 years ago. For those that have already seen that and want something new to watch then you have to select from what is currently out there. I think we get the point that you don't like Modern Family so then why not choose something else? And I don't mean M.A.S.H or Happy Days. There's lots of funny modern comedies around at the moment so why not look for one of those. I'm not going to recommend one as our tastes obviously differ but I'm sure you'll manage.

i dont think anyone should bother with this reviewer. Obviously they dont understand unique tv shows as this person rated also the social network 1 star when it one a billion award but at the same time, rated step brothers which is one of the stupidest and childish movies 5 stars.

Having browsed through a dozen or more of your "reviews", the thought I take away is this: I'm glad I'm not you...
