not bad not good,
This review is from: This Addiction (Audio CD)
Honnestly this is really quite a dissapointing album. The first few songs including the title track are very.... flat? they are uninteresting and just dont work. That said the acoustic versions (including, especially, this addiction) work great. I could easilly skip through this album and have done a lot to find a song I like.
As for gloomy or dark which a lot of reviews have been dubbing it, these people obviously have never heard any other alkaline trio albums. I mean good mourning? thats probably thier darkest album if your looking for it but listen to any alkaline trio album and its there: maybe i'll catch fire, radio, crawl, private eye and then stuff off of crimson?
The guys have over the years become a lot more mainstream and commercial sounding which I really opposed initially but they got that right by the time they released agony and irony, their most commercial album at the time but still great.
With this addiction I just dont see where they are trying to go? my point is theyve done dark, theyve polished up their production and sound, and theyve hit the comercial mainstream all sucessfully. Why spoil it? maybe its time they changed direction again.
The dvd ive not seen yet but am expecting a big bonus as the guys are always great live. If you get the chance, go and see them its a great night.
