This review is from: The Snow Leopard (Paperback)
The Snow Leopard is a book about the search for the snow leopard, in the Tibetan mountains. In the seventies when the book was written, the snow leopard was a half-legendary creature, that no-one was sure wether it actually existed. Like the abominable snowman. Since the book was written,it has been captured and there are now snow leopards to be seen in zoos. The book is also about a spiritual journey. As the explorer finds Tibetan holymen on the lower slopes of the mountain. It also shows how attitudes to class have changed as the writer describes unashamedly how he beats the Sherpa for laziness, that shows him up the mountains. He sees nothing wrong in this. The book that is totally autobiographical is also a classic among beatniks and hippies. With the spiritual and on-the-road type adventurer. I first learned of this book when my hippie school teacher was reading it at school, during his break.
