This review is from: And the Mountains Echoed (Kindle Edition)
Having read other one, two and three star reviews, the word that keeps appearing is 'disappointing'. I would add frustrating and confusing to this.
Although it totally gripped me for the first few chapters, after that it skipped backwards and forwards in time so many times, introducing new and unnecessary characters for each chapter. I imagined these characters would all tie up the story nicely at the end, but they didn't. I wanted to read more about Abdullah and Pari and how they both handled the trauma of their separation after their father sold Pari to a rich couple in Kabul. But the story doesn't move back to Pari until she is a young woman and has forgotten her real family or to Abdullah until he is an old man.
I totally understand how many fans of Khaled Hosseini's excellent first two novels feel let down by this latest offering and only hope he moves back to his original format of storytelling for his next one.
