This review is from: This is an Orchestra! (Audio CD)
This set is designed to accompany the excellent book of the same title. The CDs are a great disappointment. The content is poor and the sound quality varies from bad (admittedly on radio transcripts) to OK.
If you are looking for something representative of Stan kenton's work look elsewhere. The price is also disproportionate to the quality. Buy the book, avoid the CDs.

Thanks for the very honest negative review. Providing an interesting contrast to the affirmative one on Amazon US. You've saved me a lot of money. However I disagree about the book. I hoped it might fill in gaps in my knowledge about Kenton's long diverse career. Instead it seems to be a collection of Kenton gossip with (so far) not one useful piece of unprejudiced information to help sort out the wheat from the chaff re. Stan's Capitol recordings. For instance Mr. Sparke doesn't mention 2 great albums (arranged by Pete Rugolo) by name but never reglects second-rate reissues with which he's been involved.
