Worth the wait!,
This review is from: Shakespears Sister #3 (Audio CD)This is the 3rd album from Shakespears Sister, and it's a fantastic one it is. Delayed for nearly 10 years because a certain Radio 1 dj thought the youth market wouldn't listen to music from a nearly 40 something woman, it goes to prove little do they know.
Sure, it's not a frivilous pop album, it has dark, edgy lyrics, but often set to upbeat backing.
A few of the songs remind me of bit of T-rex, but they are slightly more punky and lots of fun.
Siobhan Fahey has a wicked way with a lyric, one of my favourite lines comes from 'Opportunity Knockers' - "Here comes those tired old tits again" - excellent!
The dance track 'Can You Wait That Long' is stunning, as is the drug track 'Excuse Me John', which kinda reminds me of a singalong bar song! I love the irony of 'I Could Never Sing Anyway', and whilst she doesnt have the bets voice in the world, her gravelly, sexy tones work perfectly.
Marcella Detroit was know longer in the group at this point, and the music does NOT suffer as a result. (She was only ever lead vocal on 1 single 'Stay').
Co-produced with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics and Siobhans ex husband), he has said this is the best album he has worked on.
This is a mature pop album, from a woman who has been around for 20 years, and deserves to be around for a lot longer.
