Cool in both senses of the word.,
This review is from: Magimix 11566 Kettle brushed stainless steel with charcoal handle (Kitchen & Home)
I recently bought this kettle from John Lewis in the brushed steel with black handle option & love it. It is the number 1 rated kettle in the latest Which magazine. It looks classy & the light on the side looks good without the need for silly colours that some other kettles have.
It looks great & once boiled is cool to the touch which suprised me as there was no indication on the box or Amazon written description to say this is a feature, yet having small kids gives me some peace of mind as they would not burn themselves if accidently touching it. The only downside to the insulation is the difficulty in seeing if it has boiled while you have been out of the room as it only feels likewarm on the sides. I tried to see how the insulation works & it is cleverly designed whereby the metal becomes hollow a few centimetres below the lip, going all the way to the base, so it is metal inside & out.
The only disadvantages seem to be the noise whilst it is heating up as the water rumbles somewhat loudly compared to a recent kettle I owned. We now have to shut the kitchen door when watching TV in the next room whilst it's on. When you try to pour a full kettle of water into a big pan or sink, it does seem to dribble down the sides in a messy way. It is weighty, but most kettles of this size made of metal are.
The lid opens nicely & shuts really quietly, but if the spout filter comes off, it is fiddly to re-attach. I have not needed to clean the sides as yet, as it does not seem to gather finger prints, which is a big plus.
