Sword and Honour,

This review is from: Blood Song: Book 1 of Raven's Shadow (A Raven's Shadow Novel) (Kindle Edition)
This is a real book. Yeah, I know, bit of a statement, but, 1) its long enough to get your teeth into, long enough to build a comprehensive world view and develop a good handfull of in-depth characters. 2) its well structured, using a present situation (a scribe writing a history of a prisoner he is escorting) interspersed with the longer as seen recollections of the prisoner himself (not all of which he is telling the scribe it would appear). 3) it is damned well written, right from the go you have questions that will not be answered for some time, still it builds as the prisoner's journey to the present is relayed, and you are on his side as the world of the child becomes the far more morally complex world of the hero. The style is kind of old fashioned (there are little maps for goodness sake) and there is very little sex, enough for it not to count, and that's fine because the story doesn't rely on raunchiness, it relies on telling a good story well. So if you are in for more than a quick fix, and like that semi-medieval / baroque world that sword fighters inhabit, then this might just be for you. The cover does it justice. I hope my review has. Roll on Blood Song 2.
