DVD is not as good as the books,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Game of Thrones - Season 1-2 Complete [DVD] (DVD)
There is a review that claims that the HBO DVDs are as good as the books. I don't think so.
OK most of the characters and places are present, but ...
1)There is gratuitous nudity. As an adult I don't mind this but it is full of it. All the prostitutes are young, good looking and alike. There may be some hair colour differences but that is all. In the books there is more variety, including old and ugly ones. People don't strip-off all the time for sexual action.
2)There are no battles, at best the outcomes. The books include these and give good descriptions of the action.
3)There are serious variations in the action. Complete changes in the story line and missing bits plus new ones that are not in the books.
4)There are some strange anomalies. The snow is artificial (very good likeness)but nobody's breath is showing, even beyond the wall. The actors are definitely not cold. In the books I had to check the weather here at times, I felt the cold just reading about it.
5)The characters are generally well groomed and clean. In the books there is much more variation between people and washing is a rare activity; their clothes are often dirty.
There are some good points. There is little music (except the intros). The speaking accent is not American. Many of the long descriptions in the books can be done away with. The DVDs are substantial, each episode is about 90 minutes and there are two on each disk, definitely not light weight.
Basically I liked the DVDs, enough to make me want to read the books again.
Don't rush to buy episode 3 until the price comes down. I paid £40 for the double season 1 & 2, it is much lower cost now.

Very helpful review thanks. I'm enjoying reading the first book, don't want to be disappointed by the screen adaptation!
