I really enjoyed this set in the 1920s it shows Evelyn mourning the death of her brother in WW1 and trying to establish a career in the law. The book shows how hard it was for women to become solicitors and to be accepted, how hard for women to give up the jobs they had done when the men were away fighting and how unmarried women found it difficult to form a life outside the home. At the same time the book follows a murder case in which Evelyn becomes involved both professionally and personally. If you enjoy this you will probably also enjoy 'The return of Captain John Emmett"
