5.0 out of 5 stars Gladiator remastered: know your product, 8 Sep 2010
This review is from: Gladiator [Remastered] [Blu-ray] [2000] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
Unreserved five stars for PQ on the remastered edition (the AQ was always excellent).

Now what you really want to know: how can you be sure you're getting the new edition, and not the shoddy first release? As of 9 September, NBC Universal UK have confirmed three things:

1. They have started shipping the new edition to retailers, but it's up to retailers as to when they sell it.
2. The new edition has a "Pocket-Blu" logo on the back, comprising the pocket BLU symbol and the words "pocket BLU"; this is the sole distinguishing mark. If it's there, you have the new edition; if not, the old.
3. The combined Robin Hood/Gladiator release includes the new edition of Gladiator.

Happy hunting!

Matthew

I got the remastered version the other day and watched it last night. To say it is a big improvement on the flawed original is an understatement; it looks utterly terrific and how it should have looked in the first place.

Shame on Universal for messing it up initially. Having to send the disc back for a replacement at your own expense then endure up to a month long wait for it is no way to treat your paying customers!

Also on my remastered copy of Gladiators, the gold holographic Universal logo is missing off the back of the case and the print on Disc 1 (the movie disc) is noticeably darker than the original label too (not that you can tell that from looking at the case!).

Does anyone know if this offer is over now and is it applicable to Irish buyers of the crappy version of gladiator?

Thanks for the information regarding the " Pocket Blu " logo update. I bought it after reading your review. The film looks fantastic, sharp clear colours - 5 stars without a doubt.

Thanks very much for the info. It just saved me from buying the inferior copy.

Cheers.

Beware! I purchased this Blu-Ray but received the original inferior PQ quality version. My package did not have a "Pocket-Blu" logo as M. Scott describes. So it looks like there is no guarantee ordering this Blu-Ray will mean you get the higher PQ version. Very disappointing. I am in the process of returning it.
