Not my favourite book,

Well, I've not been very lucky with my books recently. For a couple of years now I've been told to read something by Ian McEwan. So I was thrilled to find that our latest book club selection was by McEwan. Having now read On Chesil Beach, I've been assured that his other novels are far better.
I've become a fan of his 'turn of phrase'. I was blown away by his ability to make his characters so real, but I was left dissatisfied by the end.
The book is a novella and yet I felt the story could have been shorter. I could empathise with the characters: a young, newly married couple. They are both sexually inexperienced, but the wife is frightened by the idea of intimacy and this leads to misunderstanding. Where her husband is eager for experience, she's pretty much bodily paralysed by the idea and in mental overdrive.
It's very well-written, but I won't be recommending it to friends as a "must read". It felt drawn out
