Great item, shame the software's so unintuitive...,
This review is from: Sony Reader Pocket Edition Digital Book PRS300S Colour SILVER (Misc.)First of all I'd just like to say that I love my ebook reader. As I can't read really small text, I haven't been able to read many of the classics, and as the ebook reader allows me to increase the text size, it's like a dream come true. I can even turn it sideways, so the text becomes even bigger. I got 125 classic books free with it by downloading them from Sony, which was absolutely awesome, and I've already almost finished The Picture of Dorian Gray even though I only got the Reader last week. So no problems there.
However, in the instruction manual it says that the software needed to use the device should be downloaded from the internet... and it doesn't tell you where to download it from. I had to google it in the end, as I didn't have a clue where to go. I tried the Sony website, but nothing came up when I typed in e-library software. When I'd finally downloaded it and set it all up I found it extremely unintuitive to use. It's alright when you get used to it, but it takes some time. I'm fairly computer literate. I can work most things out. But the software was really quite user-unfriendly, and the manual with the reader on how to use the software with the device wasn't particularly helpful. I'd say that anyone who didn't have much of a clue about computers and just wanted to read a few books on the Reader would find it quite difficult.
That being said though, the Reader is entirely PDF compatible, and books downloaded from Project Gutenberg work fine. So as long as you have a few hours free to work out the software, the product's great.
