Contary to widely-held beliefs, the late seventies Dr Who seasons produced some classic stories. This, unfortunately, is not among them. The first episode holds promise, but before long it's all descended into running around caves. References to Greek mythology are mistaken for a plot, uninteresting characters say "the quest is the quest" a lot, K9 shoots people and there are two beings with heads that look like pieces off a clockwork toy (it's never explained exactly who or what they are and where they come from). If you want Williams-era Dr Who then watch Horror of Fang Rock, City of Death or the Key to Time season. Just avoid this yawn-fest.

What did you think of Season 5's Silurian two parter by Chris Chibnall? It too was a lot of running about in caves, and the Silurians were barely recognisable from their 1970 counterparts. I'll take 'Underworld' any day!

To be quite honest that Silurian two-parter was a complete let-down. It was just a collection of cliches and ideas ripped off from older Dr Who stories. But hardly surprising seeing as Chris Chibnall hasn't an original thought or idea in his head.

Mr. P. J. Turner says:
Not the best by any standards, but if you want everything with Leela in (and you know you do), you can find this on DVD in the boxed set of Myths and Legends. Very little wheat and a lot of chaff. You pays your money and takes your choice.
