4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to believe its true!, 11 Jan. 2006
This review is from: The UN Gang: A Memoir of Incompetence, Corruption, Espionage, Anti-Semitism and Islamic Extremism at the UN Secretariat (Hardcover)
Its hard to believe the personal account of the author. A former FBI agent, he is appointed by the US Government to head up the department of political affairs during the cold war. I read the full text but you can probably get the most out of the book by reading chapters 9-14. The complex machine of the UN and its relationship with the US Government is interesting. The author provokes serious thought in the mind of the reader - sometimes the truth is so far fetched it seems difficult to believe. This is not an academic text. The author has a specific humour which appeals to me but some readers may not connect with it. Humour is probably his coping mechanism for working/surviving within the UN Secretariat. The author raises the possibilities of the UN Headquarters being used as an oasis for the militants behind the 911 attacks in New York and Washington. The rational being that the UN building is above the scruitiny of the FBI and other federal or US government (or any other government's) powers or authority. The UN continues to behave itself unseemly in an ugly blatent manner. Amen for honesty in print.

S Wood says:
"UN building is above the scruitiny of the FBI and other federal or US government " - hardly given the U.S / U.K bugging during the "diplomatic" stages of the Iraq debacle in early 2003. The idea that it was possible that the UN Headquarters are an oasis for Islamic Militants is a noxious slur, it is rather U.S. actions (along with their poodles) that have been provided an environment for Islamic Militants to flourish.

"The idea that it was possible that the UN Headquarters are an oasis for Islamic Militants is a noxious slur..."

Is this noxious slur kind of like the noxious slurs Marxists make on reviewers of books with differing political opinions?

It was Ayman al-Zawahiri (al-Qaeda's no.2) who's fatwa ruled jihad must be waged at the UN, as well as a variety of other Western institutions. The same institutions that help spread Western 'corruption' into the Muslim world (presumably that is a reference to all the good work the aid agencies do, after the Taliban have finished with their victims).

A question S Wood is unable to answer is whether this worldwide jihad raging as it has for the last 1400 years is to do with the US (and its poodles), or could this just be Muslim propaganda?

S Wood says:
Ayman al-Zawahiri intent is presumably not to hang around the UN head-quarters, but rather to perpetrate such actions as the blowing up of the UN mission in Iraq.

The point the author of this book is making is that the UN building in the US is an oasis of Al-Qaeda or other Islamist Terrorists to plan and pepetrate actions such as 9/11. That is obvious nonsense for which there is not a thread of evidence.

Regarding 1400 years of global jihad- that is a singular view of history, that I have only heard from BNP supporters and Zionists, it requires an astonishing twisting of historical fact and a blinkered mindset of heroic proportions to make that case.
