Superb, influential old-school Sunlight style Death Metal,
This review is from: Like An Ever Flowing Stream (Audio CD)
In the simplest of terms, Dismember are one of the greatest Death Metal bands in the history of the genre. Along with their countrymen and close colleagues Entombed, they introduced the rest of the world to the so-called 'Sunlight sound', named after the studio in Stockholm where they recorded their finest material. Sounding similar in style to the better-known Entombed's early releases, Dismember have both a guitar sound and a bottom end to die for. The guitars sound like a rusty chainsaw with pick-ups attached to it whilst the bass on this recording could level a house with enough volume. The music is mainly mid-paced to quick (no ridiculous speedblasts, anyway) and the vocals are gruff and harsh, but not overly brutal. It's got the old school DM song titles down to a fine art as well, with such classics as 'Soon To Be Dead' and the all time classic 'Skin Her Alive'. In short, it's got everything you could ever ask from a semi-melodic Death Metal release. This is their debut release from way back in 1991, but in truth their style hasn't altered very much over the years, not that that's'a problem when it sounds as good as this. If you're a fan of Death Metal, chances are you already have a copy of this record and you've played it nearly to the point where it no longer works. If you're a fan of the genre and you don't own a copy, you need to get yourself one, simple as that.
