Yet another Madonna compilation with important omissions,
This review is from: Celebration (2 CD) (Audio CD)
OK, so Madonna has issued so many singles that it would take a 4-CD boxed set to include them all (and even then it might be a squeeze to fit them all in), but if the tracklisting given in the previous review is correct, then once again there are some important tracks left off. Of the three different Madonna compilations so far (including the ballads one), three tracks - Crazy For You, Live To Tell and Take A Bow - have already appeared on two of them, and yet all three are wheeled out again for this one. Big hits they were, but it would have been nice to see tracks like True Blue, American Life and Causing A Commotion make their debut on a Madonna compilation. Let's face it, most of the people this is aimed at are going to have at least one of the other two compilations the duplicate tracks appear on.
Who's That Girl is quoted as appearing though (even though two of the other reviews state otherwise).
This Used To Be My Playground is again missing, even though it was a US Number 1, though it does feature on the 1995 ballads compilation. The absence of Gambler means it remains the only single not on any Madonna album. Can be found on the Vision Quest soundtrack though.
I'm hoping there will be a decent DVD to go with this, the two previous DVDs of Madonna's videos missed out more than they included. Not hopeful though. It seems even the end of Madonna's contract with Warners can't bring about a decent anthology of her work.
If you already have all of Madonna's albums, would be pointless to bother with this one. Download the two new tracks and make up your own complete Madonna singles collection on your iPod.

I would also like to see some of the tracks that you have mentioned released on a compilation, but they are not particularly strong songs so I can see why they have been left off this album.

I am totally agreeing with you here...and wonder why the record company just can't issue a boxed set. I know I'd buy it and millions of others would too. Of course I'll probably buy it but I really would prefer if I could get a set with ALL her singles on it.

What's the betting, though, that iTunes will label the new tracks as "album only", ie you'll have to purchase the entire album to get them? It's becoming an incresingly common tactic on iTunes!
And I agree with F. Mclachlan comments: there was a rumour years ago that a FULL boxed set was supposed to be released.
