This review is from: Autobiography of a One Year Old (Hardcover)
I was given this book by my husband and read it straight through in just a few days. The one year old of the title is probably the funniest character I've come across in the last few years. His take on all the absurdities, annoyances and impositions of being landed with two parents who are complete novices at looking after him is ajoy to read. There were many times as I read the book that I found myself recognising situations I had found myself in with my own child.Anyone who's ever had a small child will wince at some of the scenes they're so accurate. And if you haven't had a child this book will give you a fair idea of what having one is like. As for the hero of the book all I'll say is that he is subversive, irreverent, convinced the world revolves around him, and very, very funny. Anyway, how can you not like anyone who describes Father Christmas as 'a badly dressed fat man with an obviously fake beard' ? It's a cracking book and it would make a cracking present.
