This review is from: The Poet (Paperback)
I was really enjoying this book. It was well written with interesting characters and I was loving the Edgar Allen Poe part to the plot. Then the story wrapped itself up and there was still 5 chapters to read. I wish that I had stopped reading right there. The big twist, which I won't give away, completely ruined the book for me. It just didn't fit. The complex plot was suddenly thrown away for a ridiculous ending that was completely alien to the first three quarters of the novel. This was the first Micheal Connelly book that I've read and I don't think that I will buy another.

Katie, you found the book well written with interesting characters and an interesting plot. If this is the first Connelly book you've read I'd consider giving him at least one more chance otherwise you will miss some of the best police procedurals ever written. Try one of the Harry Bosch series, I suggest The Last Coyote or perhaps Blood Work which has a different central character but is a great read.

Try the Harry Bosch series as i think theyre very good and full of interesting charactors and story lines and the follow up to the poet is good with an exciting ending its called the Narrows. His novel Blood Work was turned into a film with Clint Eastwood.Although i read other books inbetween i have been reading the Harry Bosch novels in order, that way i can follow any parts of stories that may overlap

Actually the follow up to the 'Poet' the 'Narrows' is even worse, its very poor & dull from the start to its silly, daft unrealistic finish, I do agree its worth giving him another try tho coz he is such a gr8 writer, he just lacks that ability to finalize properly, he sort of loses his way somehow, I have also read 'The Black Echo' which was just O.K. ish but it wasn't really good, anyway i'm currently reading 'The Last Coyote' and if that is as bad as the rest then i'm all done with this writer.
