fireworks on the piano!,
This review is from: A Gershwin Songbook (Audio CD)
Wayne Marshall plays the piano and organ, and manages to span the gap between classical and jazz. He has great technique, and likes to play pieces at an amazing speed. He plays with great clarity in rhythm and dynamics. When are heard this recording, I rushed out to buy the music. The preludes are pure genius, they're so short, yet have amazing detail. This performance couldn't be better - it captures the excitement and emotion of the music. I wish I could find similar piano pieces from other composers. The solo piano improvisation on Gershwin works is inspiring - "fascinating rhythm", "Summertime", and "I got rhythm" are particularly good.
