For a lot less than a magazine this book is superb value.
It is also well written, nicely concise and not padded out (so it's not challenging a short attention span), and packed with really valuable information for someone starting out with a road bike.
At the time of reading this book I'm 61, just bought a road bike having become addicted to gym spin classes. The gym classes have certainly aided my fitness but are zero preparation for any other aspects of road cycling. I did do some mountain biking for a year or so eight years ago, but that's it since childhood. I've done about 60 miles on quiet roads early morning so far.
I have the added 'problem' of being very deaf so am conscious of added lack of spacial awareness and one of the hardest things to do when starting out cycling is look behind you and staying in a straight line (not sure whether this is covered in the book, I haven't seen it yet). I am acutely aware of the need to know better riding technique and safety. This book provides this in a concise, easy to read and accurate manner.
