This review is from: How to Stop Smoking and Stay Stopped for Good (Positive health) (Paperback)
I looked up this book on Amazon today when a young colleague asked me "how did I give up smoking?"
My Dad, who'd smoked for 40 years, stopped smoking with the help of this book. Later he passed his copy to me knowing that I'd sporadically been trying to break a 15-year, 20 a day habit.
I read the book a couple of times and experimented with some of the techniques. On Dec 10th 1994, with the additional (probably psychological) help of some nicotine patches, I started choosing not to have a cigarette each time the urge appeared. Don't misunderstand, the book is not magic, it just helps with motivation and techniques. Continuing to stop was still the most difficult thing I've ever done. However so far (2005), I've continued not smoking, even reaching the stage of welcoming the cravings as the book describes.
I'm afraid I can't offer comparisons with other "giving up" books, as I don't recollect having read any of them.
