Buy it for the extras!,
This review is from: Hot Fuzz (2 Disc Special Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
I’d caught bits of this film on TV, liked what I saw and eventually got round to buying and watching the DVD.
I can honestly say that few DVDs have given me so much pleasure; it is well directed, brilliantly acted by an all-star cast and a splendid showcase for the city of Wells, which I must get round to visiting one of these days!
Not only is this a great film, but the two-disc set is full of really interesting extras, which give almost as much pleasure as the film itself. Included among them is a film directed by Edgar Wright when he was at school. I have rarely come across a DVD with so many commentaries as this one or, indeed, one in which the commentaries are as funny or as interesting as they are here. Commentaries are provided not only by the film’s director and main actor (and co-writer), but also by the actors playing the local police force, the actors playing the local worthies and the two real policemen on whom the film is (very loosely) based; they all come across as really nice blokes!
Even if you’ve already seen the film, it’s worth buying the DVD for these extras, especially as you should be able to pick it up cheaply.
