CD of the Year,
This review is from: Sensory Overdrive (Audio CD)
Mike Monroe was the leader of Hanoi Rocks - universally accepted as the main influence for a host of bands including Guns n Roses. Whilst Mike has a touch a 'glam' about him, his music has always been driven by the punk scene of the late 70's and 80's (Stiv Bators, The Damned, UK Subs, Ramones, New York Dolls etc). After calling time on the Hanoi Rocks reunion, Mike set about putting together one of the most talented and hard rocking bands around - calling on Ginger (Wildhearts), Steve Conte (New York Dolls), Sammi Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks/Joan Jett/New York Dolls & Karl Rockfist (Danzig/Chelsea Smiles). The band has been touring solidly for the last 2 years and their energetic and high quality performances have met with universal acclaim - most recently seen opening for Motorhead on their UK tour (and completely blowing them off-stage). Ask any Motorhead fan who saw them - they all came away as new fans.
This CD is the long awaited first studio effort from the band, and the content is the highest quality punk driven rock you will find around today. The influence of Ginger as a collaborative song writing partner for Michael is plain to hear throughout - with the heavy driven riffs and catchy melodies we're used to from The Wildhearts, in strong evidence.
This is high quality music with no pretentions and loads of attitude. This is the real deal - not dinosaurs catching a last buck or corporately manufactured clones. They are also one of the best live acts currently touring. If you like the Wildhearts, The Damned, original GNR, Motorhead (hell, Lemmy doesnt sing on just anyones album) you'll love this album. If you don't - check it anyway - you won't regret it.
This is a band lots of people will be talking about - very soon!

Hey buddy - Great review, I own this record already, I always was going to buy it anyway as I'm a major fan of both Monroe and Ginger. I agree with what you're saying wholeheartedly too, I hope others will invest in this outstading record on the strength of your words.
I saw the band support Motorhead last December, and then I remembered talking to a guy a while back who had witnessed Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath in '79 and blowing the latter off-stage?! This was similar....though I got to go back stage later and meet Motorhead AND Monroe and Ginger which was rather unexpected but a bit special too!!!
