Placido Domingo was at his excellent best as Canio with a portrayal which, although powerful, was well acted and jerked at the heartstrings. I compared this recording with the one I have of Pavarotti and this is by far the better performance. The absence of subtitles may be a nuisance for some, especially anyone not aquainted with the storyline, but I found it enhanced the experience, allowing no distraction from the action. Teresa Stratos was a fine Nedda, although overshadowed by Domingo. The supporting cast were strong and the whole piece was well acted and sung. Video quality was fair and overall the video is excellent value for money.
