Great pictures, light on content,
This review is from: Capturing the Stars: Astrophotography by the Masters (Hardcover)
If you want to see the state of the art in astro-photography from essentially the amateur world look no further. The pictures are absolutely stunning and the print quality excellent as well. The reason I only gave three stars is that I found I wanted more information about the pictures, how they were taken etc. It is all a bit lightweight technically - more what I would call a coffee table book. There is quite a long introduction, with some references to the history of astro-photography, all a bit florid for my taste. Each section (grouped by photographer)has a brief biopic; followed by a portfolio of their pictures. The pictures are named, with possibly a few brief notes, but not much else. I kept feeling it was missing something, why was this picture taken? How much effort did it entail? Did the photographer like it? etc. Conclusion a good book but could have been much better, they have aimed it too much for general interest.
