Well worth it, not a Macbook equivalent but not an iPad either,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung Chromebook XE303C12-A01UK 11.6-inch Laptop (2GB RAM, 16GB HDD) (Personal Computers)
Superb in every respect at the price, bar one - the sleep of death. This well-documented on forums but until there is a firmware update, closing the lid and opening it again results in a blank screen. You have to turn it off and on again. As my purpose for buying was just as a web browser then this is fairly irritating, but this product is such unbelievable value I will put up with it. (Update, after a helpful post below I have performed a factory reset - note this is a software reset and is not performed as I have been doing, using a pin to hard reset the Chromebook by depressing the reset button on the underside. Boot the chromebook up and login, click on your logo in the bottom right-hand corner and select SETTINGS, at the bottom of SETTINGS is ADVANCED SETTINGS and you can perform a factory reset here, you will lose all your custom settings so best do this when you first buy it if you are experiencing the CHROMEBOOK not waking from sleep when you shut the lid.) Still not working so maybe I will send it back and get one that works seamlessly unless there is any further advice out there.... did a little research - whilst Samsung are waiting on a fix just sign out before you close the lid for the meantime.....
I miss having a backlit keyboard but at this price it is no bother - clearly a Macbook or Laptop has superior processing power but I have had no issues despite having 15 or so tabs open simultaneously - superior from a functionality perspective than an Ipad but note Apple fans will miss, like me, imessaging - I leave icloud open all of the time.
No quality issues other than the glitch above, just truly fantastic value for money, lightweight with a decent screen. Every home should have one in my view for students on a limited budget it is irresistible at this price. Very impressed. In order to make my Numbers spreadsheets accessible from every device I have I think I need to save them as excel files, then Chromebook can display them..............

Ian - have you tried a factory reset to solve that lid/screen issue. Some of the initial factory OS/software loads didn't install very well. Many have found a factory reset solves problems.

Many thanks for your help, I have tried a hard reset by depressing the reset with a pin on the underside, but you are referring to going into the advanced settings and performing a factory reset. OK done it let's see if it works will report back thanks for the guidance.

No, that's not a factory reset - a factory reset will reload the OS & software. To do that click anywhere on the bottom right of the screen (where the clock is). Select Settings. Scroll down to Show Advanced Settings. Scroll down to Factory Reset, and Reset. If you've saved anything personal on the SSHD chuck that up on Google Drive before you reset. No promises, but it may sort things out. I don't have *any* issues on my Sammy Chromebook so if mine works properly yours should too (or send it back for replacement). Good luck.

Cheers, beat you to it with a revised review! However it seems to have worked so thanks very much and best wishes for the New Year..... well it didn't work but the critical update installed automatically a few days ago (late Feb 2013 did) so no problems. I cannot see how anyone can complain at this price, simply fantastic.
