3.0 out of 5 stars Its no classic..., 19 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Hypnotic Eye (Audio CD)
It really baffles me how people throw stars about like confetti at a wedding when reviewing music here on amazon.. If this album is worth 5 stars like so many reviewers have deemed it worthy of... well then how many stars would Damn the torpedoes, Hard promises, Full moon fever or his Masterpiece debut album deserve??? Exactly.... 5 stars! and is hypnotic eye on a par with these albums... Not in a million years.. so to all you so called experts dishing out the five stars..well you aint got a clue! Ive been a huge Tom Petty and the heartbreakers fan from the get go in 77.. Ive bought every CD DVD LP in fact anything hes ever released so i do feel like i know what im talking about! Back to this latest offering there are a couple of decent tracks here and in fairness to MOJO which this CD seems to getting compared to Mojo had 3 excellent tracks on board.. and to me 3 great TP tracks is well worth the money and i cant seem to find any here on hypnotic eye.. maybe possibly forgotten man... so 3 stars in my opinion is being very generous

You make a fair point. Me too -always been a Tom Petty fan - let's be honest there's not many around now like old Charlie T or Muddy Wilbury, and a new album from him is very welcome.
But it's only been ten days man! The album is released, people write their stuff - someone even gives it TWO stars...! You gotta listen to it at least twenty times before you make your mind up, no?
And you like "Forgotten Man". Cool. I like "All you can carry..." And "American Dream.. plan B". And after I've plugged it in and had a few more listen's, there'll be more.
So for all those 5 star awarders - yeh - they do have a clue - it's what they reckon - and after more than 10 days... maybe you will too!
So 5 stars Tom - great album.

Being into a band for a long time does not make you an "expert" Marc. Nor does it make your opinion any more valid than anyone else's. It's fair enough that you don't think much of HE, but that doesn't mean that those of us who like it are wrong.

I agree that it is maybe not a "classic" - but IMO it is a good album with some excellent moments.
