I found this book in a jumble store somewhere and have now had the tattered copy for probably almost 20 years!
It is a fantastically rivetting 'third person' read telling the true story of a massive fire in Maida Vale, London. It builds up the picture in story fashion, going through each of the 'key players' movements and actions that fatefull morning as if from a 'watchers' point of view. It's not a 'documentary' type book.
The story progresses dramatically, and at some times, tragically - but throughout and finally, you are left with nothing but utter admiration for these brave, brave men who work to protect us every day.
Absolutely worth a read, even if you may well end up paying slightly more than the 25p I paid for my copy!
