Groundbreaking piece of SF,
This review is from: Aristoi (Kindle Edition)In the future the resources of civilisation will be governed by the worthy Aristoi , a ruling class of the most creative.
These men and women will be composed of those who can isolate and controll the parts of their own conciousness and harness them for the good of all. These facets of themselves 'daimones' they use to create and govern humanity for the maximum good of all. Or at least the good of many within such parameters as these Aristoi have limited themselves.
So what happens when one of those men and women find out that their civilisation is a lie. That some of them have abjured the sensible limits of technological progress and interference with the populance. That they see humanity as subjects for dramatic experimentation And the Aristoi themselves as an experiment in governance. Can the spoiled civil minds of a golden age harness their inner demons and remake themselves in the image of the barbaric humanity of the past?
This novel blew my mind when i first read it. It remains on my personal favorites list and will be periodically reread. It and Hardwired are the reasons WJW is one of my favorite authors of all time.
I have no hesitation at all in giving this five stars and recommending everyone reads it.
