Better than Napoleon,
This review is from: Sasquatch Dumpling Gang [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Let me preface this by saying I didn't dig Napoleon Dynamite . . . However, this film is much better. There's a gentle edge to the humour which is maybe a little trite, but the characters are involving and the struggles purely comical. The excellent acting by the young leads makes up for any of those groan-out-loud silly moments.
The premise is thus: a bunch of kids think they find Sasquatch tracks (and a Sasquatch 'dumpling'). What unravels is a hilarious, non-linear expose of suburban American life and the colourful characters in this backward town where everyone is just a little bit obsessed with Bigfoot. The lead, who previously starred as Peter Pan, is warm and utterly charming, and his love interest is a strong, well-rounded tomboy who really comes into her own as the film progresses.
There are several twists and turns which keep you watching, but mostly we're here for the gags, and there are plenty of those too.
Especially if you like the humour of Napoleon Dynamite.
