A must for any Gossip Girl fan but not the series best...,
This review is from: Gossip Girl: It Had To Be You (Paperback)
Before I elaborate further, I have to say, I did really enjoy this book.
I also have to say, however, that it doesn't have the same amount of humour as von Ziegesar's usual offerings and Gossip Girl's voice (perhaps deliberately due to lack of development at this stage in the series) doesn't quite have the sarcasm, wit or distinctive something that it has in the other books.
Another thing I would say is that the book didn't quite live up to my expectations. After reading the impressive synopsis on the back I expected a lot more than the knowledge we already had from reading the series, and though we did learn more about the characters it wasn't quite as scandalous and revealing as I was anticipating. I found some of the subplots tedious and wished the focus had been more on Serena, Blair and Nate whose storyline, while almost depressingly inevitable, was quite gripping.
I don't regret buying and reading this book, it is still well written and featuring all your favourite characters from the original series. While I didn't find it as addictive as some of the other books, you won't be struggling to finish it (despite the fact that it is longer than most of the other books in the series).
I was also pleased to learn that this book is not the last we'll hear from the original Gossip Girl series and that a final installment: "I Will Always Love You" is due out November of this year.
All in all, this is definitely worth your time and money, just don't expect too much and you should enjoy it.
