Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Roberts Stream 83i Stereo DAB/FM/WiFi Internet Radio with 3 Way Speaker System (Electronics)
I'd like to echo just about all the postitive comments in other reviews. The main concern with buying any product as ambitious as this is whether the software will be buggy or will it actually work properly. The radio was easy to set up, is easy to use and the sound through the internal speakers is what you'd expect from a reasonable portable radio. For me it loses the fifth star on account of a couple of quibbles:
Firstly although there is a "line out" socket (3.5mm not RCA phono), the sound when connected to any half decent stereo is rather disappointing even by non-audiophile standards - no better than connecting a typical laptop or mobile phone through the headphone socket in my experience. It's OK for background music - the sound is mellow but with no real detail or kick to it, and at least there is no buzz or hiss, but you don't have to be a purist to realise this is no livebox.
Secondly, the visual design is every bit as naff as you would think from the pictures. It's got a couple of contemporary cues (like the fingerprint-magnet piano black finish and an "Ikea kitchen cupboard" handle) but trust me, this thing hasn't been within a mile of an italian design house. You couldn't even describe it as retro. Don't get me wrong, the controls have a good feel but it sure is ugly to look at.
