waste of time,
This review is from: Fringe - Season 3 [DVD] (DVD)
Ok, so I cannot offer a review of the dvds, but after seeing the number of 5 star reviews here (and on Amazon.com) I felt like I had to write something.
Season 3 of Fringe was awful!
Even though I remained unconvinced by the whole "alternate universe" storyline building up in seasons 1 & 2, I wanted to give season 3 a chance.
I was not expecting much from it to be honest, but was pleasantly surprised to find I actually enjoyed the first half of the season and the "Over There" episodes. The characters and storylines were interesting.
But the second half of the season was pure filler and pointless. They didn't really add anything to the storyline and just dragged the entire season out unnecessarily.
I don't know what happened to this show but it felt like the writers ran out of ideas. For example, the episodes where Anna Torv (Olivia) puts on a Leonard Nimoy (Bell) accent were just cringey.
The only bright point was Walter, who at least was entertaining throughout.
Overall I did not like the direction the series goes in. The season finale was terrible and I found myself fast forwarding just to get the end. I have not been this disappointed in a series since Battlestar Gallactica, another that in my opinion should have been so much better.
I am totally amazed Fringe got another season, but I will definitely not be watching it!

Steve D says:
I completely agree with you about the episodes where Anna Torv tried to do a Leonard Nimoy voice (probably seemed like a hilarious idea to them at the time but, in practice, as you say it was pretty embarrassing), and I agree with you about Battlestar Galactica as well - it was very good for two and a half seasons then disappeared up its own backside. It was hugely overrated, imo.
I don't agree with the rest of your review at all, but each to their own.

The voice Anna did was not bad - it was the animated part of the episode that was very weak.

I would give S3 three stars but still the weakest Fringe season (for me, S2 being the best). I think though the series that maintain the level season after season are the exception, makes me appreciate what The X Files managed all the more because today it seems most series start to go downhill after season 2, even Mad Men, but at least they had the sense to take a year off in 2011.
I didn't find Anna Torv's Nimoy voice bad, just the idea to do it in the first place, and the animated episode was plain bad. I will see S4 because I've invested so much time in it so far but in all honesty I'll be surprised if there is a fifth season, the viewing figures are down to 3 million now. Shame, it's gone from being one of my favourites to being so so.

I'd love to know what your "perfect ending" would have been.
It never ceases to amaze me the sheer amount of butt-hurt still felt by whining BSG and Lost fans who didn't get their own way.
