Excellent Delicate Drama,
This review is from: Hereafter [Blu-ray] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
Mr Eastwood continues his string of thoughtful, mature, intelligent well made films laced with theme's of mortality and legacy in fine, slight different, style here.
This tale follows three groups of unhappy people finding their way in the world. George (Matt Damon) has a psychic gift but is trying to put the trauma this opened up behind him by living discretely as a fork lift driver in New York. Marie is a successful French television journalist coming to terms with the aftermath of a traumatic event. Marcus and Jason are 12 year old twins living in London with an alcoholic mother.
Fairly disparate people but each group have a strong story and plenty of time is given for each to develop and allow our understand of them to increase. There's also the question of if and if so how they will come together in the film.
This isn't really a ghost story as I'd presumed but more a study of three unhappy people / groups finding their way in the world.
You need patiences with this film but as it opens up but it's well worth sticking with this domestic drama. I'm surprised this wasn't nominated for Oscars as it seems an excellent people drama they like and Matt Damon's performance was very good.
