This review is from: Chesters Easiest Piano Course Book 1: Bk.1 (Paperback)
I'm a piano teacher and have used this book with around 50 children now. I alternate between this and the John Thompson's Easiest piano course to refresh me...there's only so much you can take of the frog appearing on every page! Part 2 of this series is also good but by the end of part 2, it's best to move onto the Prep Test etc rather than Part 3 in my experience
Starts off INSTANTLY with the treble and bass clefs and has an excellent 6 page background to the clefs, musical alphabets etc...very thorough and something I haven't found anywhere else.
Camptown races and Pop goes the weasel and Jelly on the plate are OK tunes but the rest are very very boring...I use the 'Making the grade' series to complement this when children want to learn tunes they've actually heard of.
A note that there is a 'special edition' version of this book too with good sight reading pages.
The theory part of this book is very limited...the John Thompson one is far better but any child would benefit from one of Lina Ng's excellent theory books to complement either publication.
