This review is from: Driving Test Success Theory 2004/2005 (CD-ROM)
I bought this last week, practiced with it for 3 or 4 days and passed first time with 34/35 multiple choice and 61/75 hazard perception (the pass marks are 30 and 44 respectively).
The multiple choice questions are IDENTICAL to those featured in the actual test. After doing the test seven or eight times you'll get used to the format of the questions and, like me, might find that you've already seen 25+ of the questions in your actual theory test.
The hazard perception section of the CD-ROM is also very similar to the real thing, although the video quality is significantly worse than the real thing due to storage capacity restrictions on the CD (the real test is more or less DVD quality while this video shows some pixellation and signs of video compression). It is also filmed slightly differently, with the camera behind the windscreen rather than attached to the bonnet of the car. This means that rain, windscreen wipers and reflections are distractions which do not feature in the real test but may obscure your vision while using this software. Otherwise, it provides excellent preparation for the style of the hazard perception test.
If you want to pass your theory first time, there really is no substitute. The only other thing I recommend you buy is the Highway Code to make sure you've revised all of the subject areas that may turn up in the exam. Remember, it'll cost you £22 to resit your theory test so it makes sense to buy this and make sure you pass first time.
