When you cast a cold objective eye on this movie there's a lot wrong with it but if you remember seeing it in the 50s it will certainly take you back to earlier times in some considerable style.
The film's treatment of the theme of interracial relationships would not fly today and the frequent use of coloured filters is really annoying BUT...
...what makes this film a delight is the sumptuous photography of exotic locations (wonderful on blu-ray) and Rogers & Hammerstein songs and lyrics which are absolutely unparallelled in their quality. Not a duff song in the whole movie. For all its faults it's a cultural relic from my youth which I enjoy as much today as I ever did. Pretty wonderful really.
