give it a few listens!,
This review is from: A Crow Left of the Murder... [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
I approached A Crow Left of the Murder with caution as Morning View is without doubt one of my favourite albums ever. On the first listen of Crow the tracks that really stood out were Megalomaniac (with a fantastic video by the way!), Agoraphobia and Made for TV Movie. But this album is such a grower..a few hours later and each song seems to improve. Made for TV Movie is really catchy, with great chilled out vibes and drawly laid back lyrics. Talk Shows on Mute is a great ballad worthy of comparison to Drive (Make Yourself) or Wish you Were Here (Morning View).Beware! Criminal and Sick Sad Little World are a return to the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. days with a slightly more raw, harder edge than the mellow Morning View. The low point is for me Smile Lines which has an album-filler feel to it and Here in my Room is the cheesiest Incubus song I've ever heard, but the sheer manic brilliance of Zee Deveel make up for it. Crow is a definite must-have for any Incubus fan, but if you are a Morning View devotee, brace yourself for something new. It shows another step in the evolution of a really unique band..once again Brandon Boyd's lyrics are really something special, covering the usual topics of love and politics in a really thought-provoking, slightly edgier way then seen before. The new bassist Ben Kenny really makes his presence felt and the rhythm and beat work so well you would think he had always been on the scene. Overall..after you give it a chance, this is an excellent album and one that new fans will really enjoy if they are looking for something a bit different.. and old fans will appreciate the new change in direction.
