A bit too bland,

Eva is a young woman who is about to spend her first weekend with her boyfriend Julian, staying in a mill in the woods. On her journey there, Eva witnesses a boy being badly beaten, but Julian seemed oddly reluctant to get involved. When Eva hears of a missing girl, blackmail plots and betrayal, she doesn't know who to trust.
All this sounds a promising plot, and there is some interest in the story, but it's all a bit too tepid. Eva is actually a very irritating character, with her constant internal monologue of how frightened she is and how hard she's finding it to cope, due to her vaguely described psychological problems. Julian is similarly weak, either overbearing and ignorant of Eva's feelings, or whining about how much he loves her. With stronger characters, this could have been a gripping story - it's readable, but impossible to actually care about any of the characters.
