5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody fantastic!, 4 Dec. 2001
This review is from: SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COME (Audio CD)
This album is perfect, contains most music styles in one go,if your in a bad mood, you can relate to this album,if you want to be uplifted, you can listen to this,if you want to chillout, its all here! This is the best album iced earth have done by far,and its a must buy for any metal fan.Power metal kings iced earth had been thrashing out fantastic riffs and meaningful lyrics for years before this was released, and never managed to record a masterpiece like this (they came close with horrow show this year). This is my track by track review of the album
'Burning times'-easily one of the best tracks on the album, displaying all of iced earths qualitys in one song, and execllent piece of song writing from vocalist Matt Barlow and guitarist Jon Schaffer.Next up is the sad and depressing 'Melancholy' a song about jesus christ and also about Jon's life, with very thoughtful lyrics.'Disciples of the lie'-a metallica-esque piece of hatred and snarling powerful vocals.(throughout the album the vocals are as fantastic as ever with Matt's unique Blaze Bayley style of singing). This is another highlight of the album 'Watching over me' another sad song about Jons friend who died in a car crash some years earlier, depressing acoustic verse with powerful iron maiden style chorus, next is the average iced earth song 'stand alone' great guitars and cool main riff.Next is the calm 'consequences'.'My own savior' is next,an amazing thrashing angry song, fitting the mood of the 'Burnt offerings' album very nicely,'Reaping stone' is a cool song, very slow in places with a chugging bass leading the way, with an unbelieve middle section that will blow you away (with matt singing like rob halford)Another maiden sounding track, the instrumental '1776'.Next is the uplifting 'Blessed are you' a song dedicated to the fans, another song with the maiden influence.next is the major highlight, the 'something wicked trilogy' 'Prophecy' starting off slow and depressing, later with an incoming megadeth style riff and lyrics.'Birth of the wicked'-the best track on the album sounds like something off blaze's 'silicon messiah' album, great vocals and lead guitar that rips open your mind!,lastly is the closer 8mins+ epic 'The coming curse' a good ending to an album with a nice piano intor and choir closing,in a way a very evil album,in a way a very uplifting album, anyone who likes maiden or metallica should buy this as it is a sound that is inbetween both of them, iced earth rule! buy this now!
